I also believe in cats! These two are Minnie (front) and Oscar (back), and you may see or hear from them on the rare occasion during session. Pets play an important role in our mental health. Reach out if you need help keeping yours with you wherever life takes you.
why I believe in counseling, creativity, and connection
Creativity is essential to living. Consuming creative works is a worthy endeavor, but nothing fills the soul quite like creating something your own. It is expressing, breathing, connecting, opening. Art is healing. Creating takes a metric ton of vulnerability, therefore artists need just as much support in their corner. Everyday, everyone engages in creative acts big or small. With some mindfulness and intention, anyone can connect with their creativity without even needing to change what they’re doing.
The Journey to You came to me as I journaled about what counseling personally means. I have helped many clients through my short few years counseling, and each time no matter the issue, over and over again I would watch clients come back to themselves and accept who they are. It sounds beautiful—and it absolutely is—but it is also a hard thing to do. I want to support you in trying that hard thing.
My Approach
who needs counseling?
I believe everyone can benefit from counseling: through having extra support, a place to just be, or space to explore who they are. Learning how to explore, understand, offer kindness, and forgive oneself is never a waste of time.
you’re the driver
Counseling is self-directed. You are in the driver’s seat, so you decide where and when we make pitstops, whether we take the scenic route or the highway, and which lane we need to be in. I’ll be the navigator: making sure the big picture is considered to get us where we need to go. I’m committed to making a safe space for any client to do the work they need on this journey to the self.
Theory
I mostly utilize Internal Family Systems in my therapy approach to help you get to know and understand yourself. I believe IFS will define our current era of counseling, mental health, and how the brain understands and works with itself! Along with IFS, I use an integration of narrative, cognitive, somatic, and expressive arts therapy for a wholistic experience.
